ok i got a 1.4 pentium m laptop and i was thinking of returning it for a Pentium 4 3.2 ht at 800mhz laptop. is it a good idea? i know that the pentium m has that extra cache but will the 3.2 perform better? i bought the dell Inspiron 8600 and now i'm thinking of returning it for the Inspiron 9100.

The 3.2 wil be signifiantly faster, but the thing is are you running progs intense enough to notice it? If the lappy is for office use and websurfing then there won't be much of a difference. If it will be used for gaming, and video/audio ripping/encoding then there will be a decent difference. The 3.2 wil use a lot more battery power though so that may need to be taken into consideration as well.

That M chip @ 1.4 is roughly equivalent to P4 @ 2.2.

If you don't care about Heat and using it as a REAL TRUE Desktop, change it IF you like................

I mean I want MY True And REAL Desktop to use a Pentium M and i couldn't................ so i personally i don't understand why a pentium M user would want to change. As you have pretty much got the best X86 CPU on the market already.

The reason to change would be a need for faster performance on intensive apps. The 1.4 would be slower on intense apps.

thanks for the reply. i think i'll stick with the 1.4 m instead. there is a 15% restocking fee if i return it and that is like 200 buck i think. what i'm mostly going to be doing on this is gaming, movies, and internet only.

The Pentium M is a good performer as is and is much better for a laptop. (Less heat, less power, etc)
