Scenario:

Person A lives in Colorado
Person B lives in Florida
Person C lives in California

Person A is using MSN Messenger to chat with Person B. However Person B is not using MSN Messenger, he is using Windows Messenger.

Person C is having a hard time if it is possible that Person A uses MSN Messenger to communicate with Person B using Windows Messenger. Person C thought that MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger are two entirely different application.

Person B tells Person A he is not using the 'net send' command, yet, is still able to chat with Person A.

Is this do-able? Who's right, who's wrong? :disgust:

Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger are essentially the same thing. Windows Messaging Service ("Net Send") is a different beast entirely.

Windows Messenger is required alongside MSN Messenger for some of the "Application Sharing" and "Remote Assistance" things built into Windows XP, and accessed via Windows/MSN Messenger (ie if you uninstall Windows Messenger in XP you may not be able to use any of those features). The easiest thing is to get everyone to download the latest version of MSN Messenger, and everyone will be happy.

Just to add to Confused's reply (which was quite correct, btw), you will need to have at least version 4.7 build 2009 of Windows Messenger installed in order for some of the features detailed above to work. The easiest way to be sure you have it or need it, go to Windows Update and have it scan your system.
