Hello, I have built my wifi antenna out of a can, bought my pigtail, bought my linksys access point, bought my cat5 cable. Hooked it all up but can not pick up my brothers network. We are running XP and I went in and set my ap mode to ap(client mode) and typed in his lan mac address that is listed in his router settings but NO dice so far. I am extremely new to this and your help would be appreciated, Thanks, Paul

No , my brother lives approx. 3 city blocks away from me. My next step is to mount the homemade can wifi antenna to a satellite dish so it boosts the gain. Heck it is probably obvious I am lost. thanks, Paul

Do you have line of sight to his AP, or an antenna? Without that, at three city blocks, your homemade directional, or professionally made one for that matter, are fighting an uphill battle. Oh, a dish won't boost the gain at all. Used as a reflector and "catcher" it might help but it has nothing to do with gain.
