Sure, anything's possible. But while I've seen less likely things happen, the sample size for a Presidential election is pretty small. 11.7% is about the same chance as you have of flipping a coin 3 times and having it come up heads all three times. That sounds totally possible, but chances are pretty good you aren't going to get it on your very first try. And one try is all you get in a Presidential election.

McSame has a .02% chance of winning. Obama is 99.98% certain of the win.

Because we hate ourselves we are very superstitious. We actually imagine that if we boast or brag of act confident some invisible hand will knock us on our ass. It's rubbish.

So what will happen to all of the rednecks that think that Obama is a Muslim, white-hating, anti-American, Socialist bastard when he ends up winning? Will they revolt??

they'll grumble and moan and blame everything in the world on Obama, much like the lefties that think that Bush eats babies and read MoDo and Frank Rich in a state of rapture have been doing for the past 8 years.

Nope, they are going to claim Obama as one of their own. Obama is a red neck too. It just takes time to get to know people.

I'm going to stick with the statisticians numbers.

The polls mean nothing.

He will win the popular vote by quite a bit.

I am not convinced on the Electoral Vote and that is what counts.

According to whom?

Bonus: Nate Silver made a post about the Cellphone Effect tonight.

Avg. Obama Lead With Polls That Are Land-line Only: +5.1

Avg. Obama Lead With Polls That Include Cellphone Sampling: +9.4

11.3% according to Intrade markets
11.5% according to Iowa electronic markets

Sorry, but that does not imply that McSame has a 11.7% chance of winning. All that means is a group of people thinks he has a 11.7% chance of winning.

Hopefully, they pop a gasket and, as in a cartoon, are propelled into the atmosphere and streak off into space never to be heard from again.

Obama GAINED in FiveThirtyEight and RCP national trackers overnight from 11/02 polling data.

I expected tightening and we're getting the opposite. This might be a clear sign of superior ground game.

If the election were legitimate, yes, it would be over.

But we don't have legitimate elections in this country.

Yes, it's so certain that it's not even worth your time to go out and vote.

So basically, the two of you do not believe in encouraging representation and would rather discourage it just so your candidate has a that much more of a chance to win? Nice. :disgust:

Nothing is certain.

Statistically speaking Obama has already won.

Polls dependent on personal response have in-born flaws.

Not saying they aren't relevant, as they tend to be good indicators, but using them to claim statistical significance is a bit erroneous. They are not solid statistically, they are just decent indicators, fwiw.

2004, for example

It seems fairly clear at this point, but I'm still toying with throwing $50 on McCain on Intrade - if he wins I'd score a quick $450, which would cushion the emotional blow and more than compensate for the $300 I've contributed to Obama.

Sure we do. And you can't use election/voter fraud as an excuse, we've had that since the founding of this country, and Washington's first presidency. Can't use 3rd party election rules as an excuse either, as the 2-party system was firmly in place by the 2nd decade of the 19th century with Federalists dying out.

2004, for example

Kerry was trailing in nearly all the polls going into election day 2004.

Still, polls are meaningless if people don't get out there and vote. So vote.
