Question: IGP with Dedicated Graphics...

Hey all,

So most of us are running dedicated graphics - I'm running a GTX680. All of the consumer processors I've seen for purchase have integrated graphics.

My question: why aren't there consumer CPUs without IGPs for users who run dedicated? The IGP lays dormant with dedicated - so lets use that die real estate for more CPU?

Intel makes a couple of them. 2550k for example others that end with P I think also.

Not sure if they are IGP-less completely tho. Most likely just disabled.

Its just disabled.

To the OP, it makes no sense to make them without for the desktop. If we exclude the LGA2011 CPUs that come from the server segment.

You would actually have to pay more for a true IGPless LGA1155 CPU.

But the IGP serves as dark silicon, os its actually good to have.

None of the FX series from amd has an igp.
