question, i have a friend who has a Pentium 4 2.4GHZ 533FSB CPU, he wants a PCI express motherboard for it.

he is not ready to jump to AMD yet either, just wants to spend around $300 to get PCI express video card and motherboard

Since you don't know for sure, I'm going to guess it's a Socket-478, like my 3.0GHz P4. I'm facing the same dilema and Intel basically gave us a big STFU in upgrade support. It's LGA-775 or nuthin' with Intel. I'm only aware of one or two S478 boards that support AGP and PCI-E, but the performance on both is pathetic. I'm just planning on upgrading to an AMD platform.

Asus P4GD1
Asus P4GPL-X (Only 2 DDR slots)
ASRock P4Dual-880Pro
Albatron PX915P4C Pro

Last I saw, the P4GPL-X was availabel on ebay for $99 with $50 shipping from Germany.
