question: How to backup your ICQ list?

DannyLove

well, the time has come to reformat my hard drive, but I need to backup my ICQ list. AIM has that buddly list export option, but I can't find one for ICQ. I looked into the dir of the program and found "DataFiles." I wonder what I should copy and backup.

anyone know? thanks

danny~!

the "db" or "db99" folder (depending on what version you have) is pretty much all you need. (db mean "database&quot😉

you might also want the "uin" folder, because it helps you remember your own icq number when you re-install.

of course, the entire icq directory is usually only like 50 megs, so i like to back up the entire thing...but i'm pretty sure all you need is "db" if you're short on backup space.

i normally just copy the entire ICQ directory to either a CDRW or my other computer on the network. then you can just copy the entire directory back to your computer (if you burned it to CD be sure to take off the read-only properties) and install ICQ back into that directory. then run the DB convert thing that comes w/ ICQ and you should be fine. this way also keeps your settings and such vs. just copying the DB files.
