A guy on Craigslist is selling: "lightly used and never o'c'd Athlon X2 4600 w/ Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 (Nvidia 570 SLI) motherboard. Comes w/ 2GB PC-5400 DDR2 ram" for $150. This seems like a good deal. Would i have to buy a new OS in order to install it in my case? It will have come out of another system with Windows installed. Will this be a problem? Are there other considerations I should consider?

Thanks for your help.

You didn't say if you are getting the hard drive from that system. that's where the OS resides.

plautus,

You probably should not need to buy a new OS as long as you have a valid copy of Windows with the installation key (numbers/letters to install it) - you shouldn't have any problems installing it on the new system. You are entitled to run your copy of Windows on one system, so you can take it from one computer and install it in another as long as you don't run it on both computers.

After you get the new system built, you will need to install the OS on your primary HDD (or move the HDD from the old computer). After Windows starts, you will be asked to validate the OS by Microsoft because you will have changed the components in the computer from the previous computer (and it records your major components). Just follow the prompts and get the OS re-validated and you should be OK.
