Question for you car audio guys...

I would like to add a small sub to my car to fill out the somewhat gutless stock Altima sound system in my car. The only bit that is currently non-stock audio is the Sony CD/FM player(25w x 4). What is the simplest means of adding a sub that somehow incorporates a crossover to take the bass load off the stock speakers and put it into the sub where it belongs?

Recommendations for a small sub would also be appreciated. I'm leaning toward musicality over ability to shatter windows, BTW....and cheap is good.😀

Thanks!

You need to check the back of the Deck for RCA preouts, hopefully, you may luck out and have a subwoofer output on the back of the deck, wich means you would use a set of RCA interconnects to hook the deck to an amplifer

you might be a candidate for a sub with integrated amp...something like a bazooka tube.

you will, like was mentioned above, need to check the back of your headunit for RCA outputs.

If you have them, then all you have to do is run a pair of RCA cables to the amp, as well as power, ground, and a remote turn-on wire.

If you don't have RCA outs on your deck, then you would either need an amp with speaker level inputs or you would need to tap your rear speakers and put a "line converter" in to make your high level speaker wire into a low level signal....amp hookup would be the same though.

Ugh, I would stay away from Bazookas. I heard them in an in-car demo at Circuit City a couple years ago and it sounded terrible. My brother and I were shopping for car audio stuff for his old car. He finally went with an el-cheapo bandpass box for an 8" JBL el-cheapo sub. He powered it with an MTX Road Thunder amp I had lying around and runs it tri-way to some some door speakers. That was for his old Escort. Now he has a Miata with some MB Quart separates in the door and the same amp and bandpass box. It sounds great except the mids are distorting when he cranks it up loud when the top is down. We added a capacitor to it for a 6db rolloff but we might need to bump that up to a 12db rolloff.
