Question for you allergy sufferers

Did you have allergies your whole life or did it come on all of a sudden (or gradually)?

I've been having allergy symptoms but have never had allergies my whole life.
Did this just come on all of a sudden?

My doctor recommended that I try Claritin.

It is possible to develop allergies as you get older. A change in location can also do it as you're exposed to new allergins.

Mine were terrible as a youngin'

I'd go for a bike ride and come back practically crying with snot dripping off my chin. Eyes itched like hell.

Claritin is good but expensive for some.

I've had allergies my whole life - when spring comes it's usually the worst due to trees/plants budding along with pollen and mold in the air. My girlfriend, on the other hand, seems to be developing allergies as she gets older. She started to have symptoms around 21 years old.

Claritin works well but it gives me a stomach ache and makes me feel "weird" when I take it, so I try not to. Benadryl works well if you take just one of the two recommended pills - you don't get drowsy that way.

started when i was younger, like maybe 10 or something

take claritin (OTC) everyday and it helps a ton. though, moving to DC from TX has improved things. though, not completely bc i have indoor allergies too 🙁

Had them as long as I remember. Yeah the usual is a daytime antihistamine like Claritin or Allegra. I've had a few different ones. I've also used a nasal spray for over 10 years, tried a few different ones of those too.. I use Flonase right now.

Mine started just a few years ago. Allergies are weird. You'll find that they'll come and go for blocks of years your entire life.

I never responded well to Claritin. Rather, it didn't help with the allergies. Claritin and Clarinex. Allegra definitely seemed to help though.

Sigh... so how am I supposed to tell if it's allergies or not?
Take allergy medication and see if it gets better?

oak pollen is in full blast right now in Austin...I wear a mask to do yard work 🙁

I've had them my whole life. I started allergy shots about a year ago and I have had dramatic improvement. I also take Allegra-D and Nasacort.

I was taking Claratin D. Couple years ago I stopped taking it, haven't had any problems since. I don't know why I was taking it to begin with.

<----used to work for an allergist. I've had allergies all my life, they got worse when I hit college. I used to take Claritin, but when it went OTC, my doctor convinced me to try Zyrtec, which works much better, IMHO.
