Question for X-files fans.

Let me start off this by saying I watched the X-files from the start and loved it, but after the movie it just seemed to loose it's edge for me. I am just curious when did the show start going downhill in your opinion? After the movie? After Mulder left? During the whole Scully baby thing?

Thanks for your input.

For me, X-Files died when it tried to make a leap from self-contained, spooky stories to that painful several-season-long conspiracy ordeal. The alien invaders, scully's pregnancy, etc all killed it for me.

Scully's pregnancy started it for me. Didn't she go from being pregnant to having a toddler in a short time span? I started to skip episodes around that time...after being an avid fan. Then when Mulder left I stopped watching all together. Never saw the movie either. It just became too much of a prime-time soap opera instead of a good show with selfcontained episodes every week.

I really liked the whole conspiracy plot, but yeah, when Mulder left, I watched about four episodes and gave up.

I lost interest for the most part after season 6.
Right now I own Seasons 1-5 on DVD as well as the movie. I am seriously considering season 6 but I think I may have to stop after that.

What made you lose interest after season six?

Well, I remember being bummed out when the movie didn't give a good conclusion to the whole thing (still loved it though), and after season 6 they had some really stupid episodes, and it just lost its original feel. I tried a couple episodes without Mulder and hated them.

I like the mythology aspect, but I like how it used to be...eveyr 4th or 5th episode. All the rest were great little stand-alone's.

But regardless of what the show ended up as, I'll be quite content with my ~120 quality X-Files episodes on DVD 😀

I'm watching the first season now and it is soooo much better than the later seasons. That's really different. Usually the first season is the worst (Simpsons, Startrek TNG, etc...)

exactly

it died the season after the movie. movie begged and demanded a conclusion, but the shows creator probably wanted to keep his cash cow going at any cost. tried to push conclusion away, making the show more and more absurd. after the movies season ended it just started to insult your intelligence big time.

this was way before she got pregnant from what i remember. they find the aliens in the movie, total confirmation. show should be bloody %@# over.

mulder leaves, why? because the actor realizes the show isn't going toconclude where it needs to. smart. gillian should have demanded to leave if show didn't conclude. too bad. i wonder how much they offered her to stay, must have been a ton.
