Question for Vonage Users

I know the base charge is $24.99/month. How much (on average) do you pay in taxes?

Also, how is the quality of service?

I was lucky and I got the 500 local min for $15 a mon or something like that. As far as taxes I don't think its more than a couple bucks here in MI.

Quality of service is overall Good - very good... if you are talking about sound quality that is.

The only problems I've had have been:

1. If you do alot of uploading (like on Bit torrent or other P2P) it can mess stuff up... I've got comcast, and I think I get like 32Kbs upload, and if I have a program (lets say BT) using about 20 of that on any consistant basis, it interferes with call quality

2. Getting the damn box to play nice with my home network... can take quite a bit of fenagling, It's pretty picky (at least the motorolla one I have is) about where it falls on the network chain. but with some effort it works fine. I would suggest buying your own Box, I think Netgear or Dlink makes one, it might be a little better/easier

I have the $24.99/mo plan and I pay around $3 in taxes, total bill is around $27.

I had a lot of problems getting that Motorola box to play nice with my cable modem, and I ended up turning off its DHCP features and just plugging it into my Dlink router instead. You can't use the QOS features if you do that, but I don't think it's a big deal...

These days I think they're actually sending out Linksys routers with the Vonage box integrated, so that problem may be solved now...

My $14.99/mo for 500 minutes comes out to around $16.75 🙂

Some things to keep in mind (and the reason i went for the 500 minutes instead of unlimited)

All incoming calls are free.
800 numbers are free
Fax's can be sent w/o paying that $9.99/mo extra... You just don't get a dedicated line...

I love my vonage.... 😀

Yes. You have to go through a short little setup process to enable it, but it's available and there's no extra cost for it.
