Just curious about something directed to the vegetarians amongst us. One of my favorite aromas is the smell of steak cooking on the grill. It's incredible and I'm wondering if it's totally connected to my enjoyment of eating things cooked on the grill, especially meat.

So, vegetarians, do you enjoy the aroma of grilling steak, or is it just something us non-vegetarians are more inclined towards because of our eating habits?

I think the question should also include whether you were always a vegetarian, or if you simply changed to a vegetarian. I would expect a converted vegetarian to still be able to at least enjoy the aroma.

I'm not a vegetarian, but my wife is so I'll vote by proxy. She's never taken a bite of meat in her life, so she doesn't like the aroma of grilled meat at all. Now, if the predominant smell is just that of spices, hickory or whatever, then that's a different story, but raw meat being grilled has a distinct aroma of course.

I hadn't thought of that. It probably would make a difference if someone used to eat meat but became a vegetarian for dietary or other reasons.

Interesting question. I know a ton of people that absolutely love the smell of a freshly opened package of coffee beans but wrinkle their nose at the thought of actually drinking it.

I never thought about that with vegetarians and steak.

This is true for me too.

I love the smell of cooking meat, especially pork. But I don't eat pork since I am a muslim

I put "love the smell" but it mostly depends on how hungry I am and if there are any good vegetarian alternatives nearby. Life long vegetarian here.

Vegetarian since birth.

I don't hate or love the smell of meat. I've just gotten used to it because I grew up in the US. I only hate the smell of fish. However, you don't have that option up there. :)

I've been vegetarian since February, but never really ate steak before that (maybe once?). To me, the smell is just a smell, it's not a love/hate thing.

On a side note, the only thing I do miss sometimes is chicken in my chinese dishes, that's about all though :p

I live in a townhouse complex and every night at least one person is grilling something out back and it's a great smell.

oh... I am NOT a vegetarian.

That coffee thing seems to be fairly wide spread, as far as I can tell.
