Would I be able to use it as a mp3 player/ video player? How is the battery life? Any complaints w/ the unit? Also have they homebrewed the latest firmwares so I can play my emulators?

hold down the screen button, it turns off the screen, then hit hold and use controls on that pod thing for mp3 playing for best result.. I got maybe 6 hours out of it like that with stock headphones.

as for video.. maybe 4 hours? I dunno.. I can take my psp to the club and play it with friends (who are staff) for the four hours and have bout 30% left on it. so should be fine.

as far as I know, anything over 2.0 cant be reverted to 1.5, and no homebrew has worked, but they are making strides in it.. they can emulate 2.0 now, but not enough for GTA games. I was fortunate in getting a 2.0 unit in the gigapack. though I corrupted my memory card a few days ago..

No mod necessary to play mp3 or video files (as logn as the video is in the right format). Never messed with any homebrew

for video you need a program to convert them into the right format before the PSP will play them

Homebrew and videos/mp3s are the only reason to own a PSP right now. The games are very lackluster IMO. Best games are all puzzle games (Lumines, Mercury). The biggest limiting factor up until now has been memory sticks and how expensive they are for their relative storage size (maybe 2 or 3 videos on a 1GB MS Pro Duo). Just saw this though, ability to connecto a 2.5" HD to the PSP, which may make my Ipod Video obsolete.

As I stated in the comments at gizmodo, doesn't that thing just act like a computer in that you still have to copy content from the drive to your memory stick? In other words, it doesn't show up on the PSP as a MS that you can access willy-nilly. If so, pretty clunky.

Yeah, I just read the comments there too. Too bad. Would have been great if the PSP could directly access the hard drive.
