Thinking of buying this card to upgrade from 8800GT but I have a question. How long is it? I have an Antec Sonata III case.

Is it shorter than 11 inches?

Should I go with EVGA or any other brand, I'm buying from newegg.. any suggestions?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...iption=GTX+260&x=0&y=0

Trying to get 1 with 216 cores. And I don't like buying factory overclock because have heard of some that're not stable. Figure I can always oc on my own if I need to.

P.S. I want a dual slot card that blows hot air out and possibly silent as can be. I hate the 8800GT vacuum cleaner squeal.

I have older MSI 65nm 192sp factory overclocked gtx260 that will oc even more. try to stick with EVGA, XFX or BFG for best warranties. they should all be 216sp. Nvidia switched to 216sp before they even went 55nm so I doubt they have even made a 192sp in the last 9 months.

my gtx260 runs extremely cool and quiet.

Any reason your are limiting yourself to a gtx260?
Why not a an equally performing 145$ 4870 1gb or 169$ dirext x 11 5770?

comfy with nvidia and nice rebate on it too.

Also 1 other question.

I have a E6550 2.33ghz default @ 2.8 ghz (can run stable at 3.0 or even 3.13). That won't bottleneck the GTX 260 will it?

Full system:

E6550 @ 2.8
P35-DS3L Rev 2.0 Motherboard
4 GB Gskill DDR2 PC6400 RAM 5-5-5-15 timings

Wasn't a 5770 lower performance than a GTX 260 and even 4870?

not really but if you can squeeze a little bit more out of that cpu it would give you a couple more fps. what res are you playing at?

hmmm that 4890 at that price is mighty tempting to jump ship to ATI. Think the Power Consumption will be the same? I dont see anything listed on newegg's specifications.

Anyone have the 4890?

I'd stick with the EVGA like people have said. Others have the double lifetime....but you can at least use the step up with EVGA. A nice option....
I'm really satisfied with my cards. Although , that 295 still looks really appealing....

A HD 5770 is pretty much equal to a GTX 260, yet consumes less power and has dx11. Personaly I see no reason whatsoever to buy any Nvidia card right now from the 9800GT and up.

I have an eVGA GTX260 Core 216 and I absolutely love it. Like you, I play at 1680 by 1050 and the card is brilliant. However, at this point I'd recommend the HD4890 if you could find it at a similar price. There's always the Direct X 11 cards that ATI has/will have soon if you want some future proofing.

edit: If I'm not mistaken the GTX260 also overclocks better than the HD4870. I considered both cards, but went with the GTX260 since they were the same price at the time and nvidia is my brand preference(I would have bought the 4870 if it was cheaper at the time though).

he's comparing a $190 gtx 260 core 216 to a $170 AR 4890. imho, that is a no-brainer choice for 4890. however, as mentioned 5770 is a viable alternative. that card is about 10 % slower than gtx 260 and 20% slower than 4890, but it will have a lower cost of ownership due to incredible power efficiency and should get better and better over time as dx11 becomes more widely available.

personally, I don't give a shit about power usage. I'd buy the 4890.

$190 for a GTX260? Try $175 w/ free shipping and a $20 rebate, that's $155AR. For $155 it's quite a performer, and it's an XFX, so Double-Lifetime warranty.
