Say you save 15% per month for some reason.

Do you take 15% off of your pre-tax OR after-tax income?

if you do 401K, then pre-tax

damn, that reminds me...I need to start saving 15% if I want to retire with self-renewing income.

No, my employer sadly doesn't offer a 401K. Everything I do I have to do myself.

You see, I take 15% off of my paycheck every month, put it into a seperate savings account, and then full fund a RothIRA when I have saved enough.

I do a percentage pre-tax for 401k, and also a fixed amount direct deposited into a savings account (post tax).
