question for those who don't live in the usa

jhu

Lifer
what do you call black people over there? they're certainly not american and possibly african. or what about asians?

Black person actually.

African American.... how many of the black people in the US actually relate to Africa?
What about the non-black who came from Africa? What do you call them? THe people in Morocco are technically from the continent of Africa.
As is egypt. Are they African Americans?

I understand the need for a phrase to label all the repressed people so that they can fight for their rights and equality.
But what's wrong with "Black"? I've never met a black ashamed of his colour. 🙂

The more interesting question is "What do Americans call immigrants from Kazakhstan? Asian Americans?

why, non-descript-white-person-with-a-foreign-accent of course

I would say Kazakhs (to the Kazakhstan question), but then I call Iranians Iranians, Egyptians Egyptians, Koreans Koreans, Americans Americans...

Black for black people, Indian for Indian people (well I do), and Asian for people from Asia who may or may not be Indian.

I had to give a speech in French comparing racism in France to racism in the US. I was told to use the word "noirs," which literally means blacks. I coulda swore I'd be offending someone, but no one cared, as it was proper.
