I'm learning Japanese, and would find it very handy to ask questions to a friend of mine who is fluent. Problem is, I'm on Windows, and she's on a Mac. And if I send an email to her with kana in it, she sees it fine..but when she emails me kana, it shows up kinda like this:

$B!4#@B$%B8@B

Any ideas on how to view this properly on a Windows machine??

Thanks!

It's not really a font though, is it? Like on Windows... it's in some funky format, some kind of extended Unicode or something? Because on Japanese web pages, they have Unicode numbers.. like (ampersand)#12459; etc., which looks like this: カ

I need to figure out what format Mac uses to represent kana.. and figure out if there's some way I can view that in Windows. There must be a way.

Solution: open up the email in Outlook, View->Encoding->Japanese (Auto Select)

Did the trick!
