question for the video guru's, firewire capturing problem

hey guys, i recently got a mini dv cam (sharp VL-WD255) and i got a firewire card also, i am capturing in premiere using ms dv codec, now i know dv resolution is like 756X650 or something like that, but the avi i capture and try to play in mediaplayer,powerdvd etc, shows up as small size, like i was loading a vcd or something, when made fullscreen picture looks sort of pixelated and junkie, is the capture quality supposed to be like this when i fullscreen? i though dv was supposed to be awsome quality but this looks worse than analog in fullscreen, maybe i captured wrong or is it low light problem maybe? thanks in advanced
