I know that a lot of people are vegetarians due to health reasons..some due to animal cruelty issues, so I'm curious if this would change anything.

I've had to put down a couple of deer (hit by cars) - assuming the body is intact (no ruptured organs..i.e. no reason that the meat would be bad), would you consider eating it?

For you city people going "omg ewww roadkill"...often they are still alive when we get there, but due to catastrophic injury (multiple broken legs, etc) there's no saving them. :(

since this post is currently in the garage, lets talk about what kind of car would make the deer most tender and delicious to eat.

I'm not a vegetarian myself, and most of the vegetarians I deal with on a daily basis are Hindu coworkers from India whose dietary requirements/choices are both religious and cultural. I think the only times they would eat meat would be if there were no other choice.

Most Hindus I have meet only won't eat beef. I'm curious how it all works lol.

Anyways Deer FTW...but if I hit a deer I would definitely put it out of its misery. Then if possible I'd try to see if it was (read: legal) possible to see if I could take it to a butcher or someone that could deal with it. It would be a perfectly good waste of meat.

You can in NH - that's what happens to the vast majority of ours. Pick up a tag at the PD and you're good to go.

There are sub divisions in hinduism. As far as I remember ... brahmins, chatriyas, visyas, shudras.

Brahmins are mostly priests, which requires them to be pure veggies.
Chatriyas are usually kings ... They can do what ever they want to ...
Visyas are the merchants class, Some eat non veg, some don't.
Shudras are the domestic help and they usually do the menial works .. They obiously are non veggies.

And non veg hindus mostly, don't eat anything else to goat, chicken and fish(As far as I know).

Meat is delicious. Just eat lots of veggies to balance out a meaty meal.

By "no other choice" I mean eat meat or starve to death in a survival situation. If a vegetarian chooses to starve to death rather than eat available meat, all I can do is shrug.

If it's a situation where a vegetarian is at a gathering at some restaurant which doesn't serve veggie meals and the person chooses to skip the meal, that's pretty normal and not what I'm referring to.

Well .. Depends on the individual ... Some people who strongly believe in god will choose to starve to death(yes there are such people, very orthodox, very old... Priests I guess).

I would personally prefer to starve. Not cause I have a very strong belief in god (may be not).
But I can't bear the smell of non veg or eggs, Especially fish, it just makes me puke. I'm from a very orthodox Brahmin family BTW...

I'm not a vegetarian, but I would eat one if I was starving. Well maybe I wouldn't wait so long that I was starving... sickly bastards don't have much good meat on them to begin with.

I would eat meat in a heartbeat were there no choice. Brahmin family myself. I'm not religious at all. I'm vegetarian because I think to myself: "Why not be vegetarian if I can survive happily without killing anything else." of course, so many innocuous things have animal based products... Leather, gummy bears etc.... sometimes you just can't avoid it.

I also eat cakes with eggs ....
But that's a non raw form of it ... Gummy bears and stuff, I never heard of em in my whole life. If some one can take care of the stench may be I can eat it ... Only under heavy compulsion or if its a life or death matter. If my parents know that I've been eating non veg, They will simply throw me out of my home and stop paying my college fees ...
And believe me no part time job here in India can take care of your college fees !!

Well ... The last time I went to a fish aquarium exhibition, which were also serving fish meat, I just puked into a dustbin by the side ... Thats when I realized am not meant to eat non veg.

Dude you feel you can eat non veg, but you won't, believe me. Some of my Brahmin friends tried and couldn't even get a single piece into there mouth.

It's ridiculous why anyone would willing let somebody train them like animals into doing something so unnatural. "Son, if you eat meat you will die." "OMG, I just put meat into my mouth, I better spit it out before my stomach explodes." /palmface
