Now that spring is just around the corner I've been getting prepared to start running. I would like to get out on the trail about 4-5 times per week but I'm curious if there are any supplements or vitamins that I can take that will help me avoid joint pain. I recently starting playing basketball again this year and the first 2-3 weeks I had some pain in my knee and ankles, however it went away around the 4th week. I'm wondering if I'm going to have the same problem if I start running almost everyday.

Thanks for any advice guys

I'm primarily running to lose weight, if you know of any alternative cardio that can drop the pounds as quickly as running I'd be glad to hear it. (I'm trying to do cardio without equipment, currently don't have a gym membership or room for exercise equipment)

I take a Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM supplement every single day and I have not had any joint pain and I run quite a bit.

However, the first and most important question I have to ask is: how are your running shoes? That may have a lot more to do with why you are experiencing pain.

I used to run and had problems at first. Switched shoes and it went away with a little time.

good running shoes, surface you run on, rest and knowing your limits will have more an effect on joint pain then any supplements you can take.
