I am doing a research paper on that war and I must admit that what I am find is quite interesting. Unfortunately I was but an egg at that point so I wasn't able to experience public sentiment.

To those who were already at least teenagers at that age, and disregarding everything since, what did you think of The Islamic Revolution , Ayatollah Khomeni, and then President Saddam Hussien?

<--very interested ; I don't need help on the paper or anything. I was interested in the subject which is why I chose the topic, so I want to know "for kicks"

The boneitis is just fine. The fishy in a bubble on a stick says you're being mean though, and I should feed your geese to the toaster.

It's entirely relevant. The fishy in a bubble on a stick keeps the boneitis at bay. She also tells me jokes. The toaster is always hungry, and loves to eat birds because they sometimes fly too close to the fishy's bubble.

I'm mildly interested in real responses anyways, so it wasn't an entirely unselfish bump. :)

I can remember back in the mid 80's being interested in this war. I use to listen to news about it on AM talk radio. Another thing I use to be interested in during that time was the philipines and Ferdinand and Emelda Marcos.

I can recall that each side would capture land(mostly swamp/marsh land), lose land, the Iranians were quite adept at overrunning the Iraqi's in sheer numbers. they were men with no training, just willing to die to push the Iraqi's back. then the Iraqi's would launch missiles into Iran, although they never really hit anything important

Stolen from Encarta (Thanks Microsoft):
While these events were unfolding, some Iranian officials made no secret of their desire to have other Muslim countries follow their path of Islamic revolution. A crisis between Iran and Iraq escalated during 1980 as the two countries accused each other of border violations and interfering in each other?s internal affairs. Iraq responded to the escalation by repudiating the 1975 agreement giving Iran access to the Shatt al Arab. On September 22, Iraq further escalated the conflict, launching the full-scale invasion of Iran that initiated eight years of warfare.

One thing I forgot, Encarta has a ton of info on it, but unfortunately, it doesn't have what you're looking for -- personal opinions.

As for the pre-war era, it seems that it was quitee a feat for those interested in pre-war gossip.

For example, when Hussien gave an Addresson April 7th, 1980, he stated that Iran was part of Persia:D

On April 8th, Khomeini's sun, in a radio adress said something along the lines of "Bahgdad and Abel belong to US."

Them fightin' words:D

Yep. Iran says Iraq was the one who " disavowed" the Algiers treaty of 1975 according to a foreign ministry report

Iraq says the same thing of Iran.....

heh.....and Yes, even in the Iranian Foerign Ministry report, it states, and quite proudly I might add, that all that Khomeini wanted was to spread the Islamic revolution the the corners of the globe:D

Also, I forget the date, but I have a quote of the Foreign Minsiter of Iran saying that they wanted " overthrow the Iraq government" and that talks were not an option:D

During the War, according to reports, Iraq troops actually destroyed some of their own cities, fearing that Iran might get them as a Prize.
Real friendly folks.

Of course they wanted to. I guess Khomeini couldn't stand being located next to a country that had a secular regime.

The US should have given the Shaw proper support against the Muslim revolutionaries in Iran.

It's a desperate tactic, but it's effective.

Oh yeah, Stalin did the same thing in the Ukraine -- "scorched earth" policy.
