Ok, first off, I'm 18, so feel free to make any jokes you want about me, but I'm finally getting out there. I still haven't asked this girl, but want to have a plan for what we might do if she asks. I don't have a car, but she does (I think). So, she picks me up, we go see a movie, then eat? Ok, I'm new at this, advice greatly appreciated.

Movie and Dinner works, but Putt Putt and Dinner is more fun (and probably less expensive because movies are ridiculus).

Hmmm, didn't think of that, but I probably should have mentioned this, I'm in Wisconsin and it's still a bit chilly out, so if possible I'd like to keep it indoors. (Indoor putt putt is about as expensive as a movie around here)

No offense, but asking her out and then asking her to drive is kind of embarrasing...

ask to borrow one of your parents' cars or something

See the thing about the car is that my parents went to a wedding today and took our car so I'm pretty much screwed in that department. I figured if she drove but I paid for everything it wouldn't be too bad.

I'm guessing that you're in college right now, and if you live off-campus, that is, in an apartment, then you can cook her dinner - she can pick you up, go to the grocery store together, get the stuff and bring it home, cook it, and the rest . . . is up to you ;)

Even if you live on campus (still on the assumption that you're an undergrad now), a lot of dorms have kitchens for student use.

Or if not, a dinner and a movie sounds fine, or a dinner then a cafe to talk would be nice too.

Oh, by the way, a very good question :D - been curious about this ever since I started dating in high school, no offense to the other repliers, but the answers sure do . . . err, well, let's say that they're a little bit generic, don'tcha think?

Another one - walk in the park/picnic (on nice days), going to a show, not a movie, but a live performance, like a concert or a play then dinner so that you have somethign to talk about, or even double-dating with a friend? I dunno. I'm trying to get this girl I know as well. Getting mixed signals. Personally, I'm going to try to impress her by cooking for her. I wish you luck, and good hunting.;)

I don't see anything wrong in letting her pick you up, since she has access to a car and you don't. It probably is a good idea for you to pay for everything, on the very first date. Otherwise she may think you are a cheapskate. Or (ONLY if she brings it up) you can split the tab (some young women prefer this, since they don't want to feel as if they are being "bought.")

My suggestion for your date: Chuck E. Cheese, or a similar place that has pizza and arcade games. This is a fun sort of way to get to know someone, and is more sociable than a movie. The bowling suggestion is good, too. Another enjoyable place for a date is a roller rink or ice skating rink. Playing pool can be fun, but only if it's a classy, nice pool hall, not a dumpy dive full of creeps.

The problem with going to a movie is that you just sit there for two hours without talking to each other. It's better to spend your time getting acquainted, isn't it?

Info update:

I'm a senior in high school and so is she.

It's still in the mid 50's here in Wisconsin, so again, I'd like to keep it indoors

Thanks for the recommendations so far guys and gals. A movie does seem kind of dumb now.

invite her over to your place and rent Serendipity on dvd. drying in the snow can be dangerous.

<< Hmmm bowling sounds promising >>

I always liked first dates to be casual and fun, rather than "impressive" and momentous. So bowling sounds fun. Be sure it fits her style though, because some women really swoon over grand events. Hopefully, you don't have one of those ;)

edit: congratulations of getting out the door :)

Food in a place where it's generally quiet, but no one will care if you get a little loud. There are tea houses by me that are perfect for that...unknown if that option is available to you.

Billiards is good, if you don't mind the possibility of getting 0wned by some of these ladies. if you happen to be a shark, give pointers.

As for something ridiculously grandiose, I have the option of an air tour of NYC, I don't think you're gonna fly here tho.

Then, there's the true Anandtech date....take her to a LAN party. If she's not impressed, she isn't worth it now is she? hehe jk
