Question for the flight sim guys

Are the CH joysticks still some of the best out there? I am getting back into flight sims after a 5 year lay off.

Thanks

Yes, CH is the best still. If you can find an old Microsoft FFB2 I'd recommend that also. They're nearly double the orignal price on Ebay though, but well worth it I think.

I'd stay away from the Cougar unless you have about $1000 to mod it into workable condition.

BTW, the next 4.0 patch for Pacific Fighters will bring the new BoB FM's into the game. I've heard great things from some of the beta testers so far.

Cool thanks Thera.

Do you have any personal favorites in the CH lineup?

Thanks

Thanks psiu

I like the CH rudder pedals. I use a MS FFB2 joystick. actually I have a CH yoke but I never use it because it's a pain in the ass to setup. I mostly do instrument flights in MSFS for real life practice.

CH is still the industry leader if you've got money.

I've used Saitek for a while and have never had any complaints. I've had a Cyborg3D (gameport), a Cyborg3D gold (usb) and currently a Cyborg Force. All very good sticks, never had any trouble with them (the game port on my mobo died, and I got a deal on the Force, or else I'd still be using the first one).

The Microsoft Force Feedback 2 is one of the nicest sticks you can buy, but seeing as its been years since the last one was produced they can be hard to come by, Also, the trigger button on that stick wears out and you'll have to replace it from time to time.

Best combat flight sim on the market is IL-2, actually its evolved into Pacific Fighters now. Make sure you buy the Pacific Fighters +IL2 Forgotten Battles + Ace Expansion Pack combo, otherwise you only get the pacific theater. With the combo you get everything.

And was, the next patch (due very soon) will have some amazing additions. New clouds, make true overcasts possible, completely reworked flight models, and now the AI uses the full flightmodel so you won't see it cheating. its just getting more and more realistic.

great online play, too.

amazing graphics, runs on older machines, doesn't leave too much to be desired.

I personally don't have any CH gear. Several people in my squadron due though and it's the standard in sims. I use a MSFFB2 and a MS Strategic Commander as a poor-man's throttle. The "throttle" is a HID keyboard and I map almost all my functions to it. I've considered a real throttle but none that I've researched have enough open key binds.

You may also want to check out TrackIR. I tried one but ended up selling it. I fly in a support/ground attack role mostly and a steady "down the wing" view is more important to me. The TrackIR device doesn't deal with major off-axis viewing too well, but that's just an issue with it. It's either accurate or fast... not both. That said... a ton of people swear by it so it's certainly worth looking into if you're a sim nut.
