I'm still a WinDoze kinda guy... I know that i need to invest the time to get an understanding of the various flavors of Unix... but there just doesn't seem be enough hours in a day! So many unasslaminated potenetial herd members... so few hours 🙂

Geoffs,

How often do you have to reboot those WinDoze nodes?
That would be one of the reasons why I would prefer
to use some small *nix distro.

Another bump, I just remembered another kind of software that does somewhat the same thing as VNC, but just over INet and for winblows boxes 😉

Buddyhelp is a nice thing, don't know if you guys were already using this or not, but I've found it to be quite useful whenever I needed to help someone with windows, and I wasn't close by...

divide_by_zero-

(1) I've only had to reboot because of overclocking lockups.
(2) I haven't notice VNC to steal any time. The server portion that sits on the remote PC just seems to listen for a request which you initiate from your main machine. After you are finished poking around, shut down the connection and it goes back to listening mode.

Ahhh, but the downside to VNC is that you need a harddisk.

Goeff, what is the smallest harddrive you are using for Windoze
and what version of Windoze?

I currently have a pair of machines using a couple of spare SCSI 4g drives that I had lying around. I think you can manage Win98 on 2gig, and Win95 on less than that.

Is there a significant cracking rate difference between the Klinux and Win9x clients?
