Question for the cooks on ATOT.

Do you have to have vegetable oil to bake a cake? It requires 1/2 a cup it says. I am baking a cake, and I am out of vegetable oil. Wondering if this will be okay...

Corn syrup is sweet and is used in place of sugar I thought (7up used to use sugar, nixed sugar and now use corn syrup).

So you think you can replace items in food just because they are liquid and in the same cabinet?

You're one of those guys that still tries to make the orange juice in cereal thing work, huh?

No. They look almost the same, but one is an oil and the other is a sugar. The sugar will turn brown and burn.

Well, I am just in the mood to bake a cake, and I figured maybe more sugar would be better anyways, but guess not. Should do it and see what happens though, haha. Do you have to have oil in cake though?

Edit: Err, that was pretty funny, but embarassing at the same time.

The cake batter probably won't come together as well. Also some flavors are fat soluble so flavor will be off. If you have everything mixed together except oil, see what happens. Send :camera: 😀

edit: actually you can try to substitute butter for oil too, not sure how that'll work but it's worth a shot.

edit2: google knows all: http://www.ehow.com/how_114372_substitute-missing-ingredients.html
