because the government is the most inefficient piece of crap going.

i saw on 20/20, John Stossel did a report on some city, may have been New Jersey where he asked about some screwed up water piping system. the government and its engineers said it could not possibly be fixed but a few years later, the water for the city deal was contracted out and suddenly under control of private industry the problem became fixable. they also let private industry handle ambulance dispatch and suddenly the time for arrival cut down from 15 minutes to just under 5 minutes and for about the same budget. everything the government does is just a huge burrocracy and a waste of money, did you see that new american warning system thing "green means everything is ok" and can you say again what they are supposed to do when it's situation yellow? they never said. they spent millions on that piece of crap and it doesn't even do anything.

the canadian government spends lots of money on OUTDATED military supplies such as some stupid ass satelite system they recently bought which isn't even being used because it is considered to be too old yet we still paid for it.

with government jobs, you can screw off and nobody will ever get fired, in private industry you find yourself on the streets because you suck at doing the job you were hired to do. governments almost LOOK for the stupidest and most useless people to be its employees.

The federal government is too bloated, stagnant, and not accountable to the people it supposedly serves. That's why I support a smaller, more limited federal government. But I voted for the first one.

Isn't there like an ammendment or something that supposedly gives all power not expressely given to the federal government to the state government? What ever happened to that?

Of course like Ronnie said....
The nine most terrifying words in the English language are "I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

Since i live in New Jersey, I can honestly attest that New Jersey is indeed a STATE and not a city. :)

i wonder what it would be like to have a small local government sort of like UK, small area with 1 government. it wouldn't have all the 1 side against the other that Canada has. in Canada, if the 2 provinces in the east vote for 1 government, not even all of the other 10 i think it is provinces and territories together can beat the vote. that's why our government is so screwed up.

the nation should just be an alliance sort of and only governed by the provincial/state governments, the government in Ohio probably knows more about the needs of Ohio than the fed government mostly catering to Cali or New York would.

liberal (actual liberal, not the mild socialism associated with liberalness in the US) on most things but feeling that there are some things that the market can't solve on its own so intervention is required. teddy roosevelt was a progressive.

That is why the founders in the US created the electoral collage, so that one or two big states could not become completely dominate over the rest. Unfortunately many in this country no longer understand that, or if they do don't agree with it.

I guess I have to go with neither also. IMO, our government welfare should be a safety net, not a way of life. If most of our lawmakers were like Hillary, we'd be another EU, or worse! :Q

If that's the criteria you have a huge future in the civil service. Asshat.

glenn1- I am for a smaller goverment but I think your choices suck. The problem with the goverment is the bueracacy (sp), the endless regualtions, red tape, procedures etc. The goverment doesn't want to be intrusive or grow itself. That is usually caused by the lawmakers. Vote them out. I would also say that instead of being grossly imcompetent, the gov't is grossly inefficient.
