Ok I have WinXP pro and I cannot get it to install of the CD I have. I know the CD works because I used it to install XP on a different PC to see if it was a bad CD. It worked fine. The problem is when I tried to install on my real PC I get an error message that says invalid text char found in d:\l386\asms\6000\msft\windows\common\controls\controls.man line 0 . I tried looking at the file with Notepad, but I didnt really see but one character. If anyone knows what the problem is, or if anyone can just tell me what their file says on that line, I woould be very appreciative. Thanks again.

P.S.

My PC is:
P4 1.3ghz
80gb HD
256mb RAM
nvidia geforce2 card
WinME
SBLive sound card

Just in case that helps.

try installing win 2000 first and install no drivers or programs, them when you get the first desktop, upgrade from there.
comes out the same as a fresh install but it solves alot of little problems.

I tried to do a fresh install the one that overwrites and that didnt work either. I would assume that would be bare essentials too right? I mean if it deleted the previous windows and DOS

you could remove your video card if your mobo has an onboard video adapter.

then put it back in...

If the cd works fine in another computer, you might want to try copying the contents of the WinXP cd to your hard drive and installing from there. Your cdrom might have problems reading parts of the cd

The CD failed on the intial burn.

Some CD programs qlitch on burning from the ISO, particularly on that file it seems.

When you looked at the file, it was all like "................................................", right?

That would mean the real information that was supposed to be in the file was not
written out.

Did you burn the ISO on the Track at once setting, or Disk at Once?
