I am setting up my first surround sound system at home, and will be using monster cable to connect my right, left, center and surround speakers (RCA for the sub). I've read that you shouldn't connect speaker cable directly into the receiver and speakers because it will corrode. What connectors (like MonsterLock) do you recommend for this? I may get the Monster offering, but I'm always open for a better deal:) Thanks.

What? I have always connected my cables directly the my receiver/speaker binding posts, and have never seen any corrosion whatsoever.

copper tends to get varnish on it if it's untreated.

It doesn't matter. Bare wire works fine, if every so often you clip off the old stuff and use fresher copper still inside the insulation.

I also use the commercially available corrosion inhibitor that we electricians use on bi - metalic contacts.
Some of my clients make me use CAIG brand products on their connections and contacts.

Knowing very little about the subject, I just have to ask... wouldn't adding connectors to the ends of the cable (slightly) increase the resistance? And considering most people try to reduce the length of wire as much as possible to reduce resistance (I think anyways), isn't this a bit self defeating in that sense? I mean, couldn't you just leave a bit of extra wire (which would also be more resistance), and then just snip off the tip if/when it corrodes? This way you don't have to spend X dollars on connectors.

Oh wires for free. Nice!
