Question for the ATOT widows

I'm not much of a shopper but I need to go out and get a nice evening dress type of thing for an upcoming work event.

Given that these seem to run between $100-$500 dollars... yikes!

Where do your wives/girlfriends get "dressy" clothes, and how much do they usually expect to pay for something like that?

my wife likes to shop for executive work clothes at Nordstrom's. I'm not sure if that's a dressy place or not since I try to avoid the place 🙂

I'm not exactly an ATOT widow, but . . . assuming you want something work-safe, reasonably conservative, Nordstrom's is where i go. In the midwest, JC Penney is where I'd go if I still lived there. That kind of place.

Have fun.

How about Nordstom's Rack? You never know........ you could luck out & find a nice dress at a reasonable price 🙂

Cheers,

You needn't spend anywhere near $500 for an outfit for work related functions.

First find out just how "dressy" this affair is, will dressy slacks, blouse and festive jacket work ? is everone wearing a dress and if so what length ?

Get your phonebook out and also google for consignment stores in your area, you can get lovely, designer things for a song.

Keep it simple, wear your youth as your primary adornment, black slacks, skirt or cocktail length dress, simple but colorful jacket, one /2 signature pieces of jewelery
silver pieces are fine or a nice scarf, french manicure on the hands, simple updo

think basic, quality pieces, that can be paired up with different accesories in the future !

Very true. Try not to waste money on something you would rarely if ever wear again.

Just wear a pair of khakis and a sweater. What are they going to do, fire you for that?

Whatever it is, I'm sure it's not the Inaugural Ball.

In many workplace cultures how you present at work related functions matters a lot !

I never used to go to company functions, now I make an effort to attend key events and to be selective in my dressing, it has gone a long way towards improving my
work related image. Lol, I'm considred friendly, approachable and a sharp dresser.

I remain steadily employed in a market that's soft .. that's result enough, a hundred resumes a month cross my boss's desk, there's no shortage of replacements for me out there.
