Question for Samsung 970P/Viewsonic VP930b owners

I'm trying to decide between the Samsung 970P and the Viewsonic VP930b LCD monitors I'm mostly concerned about backlight leakage, and ghosting problems in first person shooters. I know that TN type panels are faster but I prefer the high contrast and wide viewing angles of MVA/PVA.

Also, does Samsung's MagicTune software interfere with a second non-samsung monitor when it's attached to a secondary output of the same graphics card? TIA.

I don't own the Samsung 970P or Viewsonic VP930b, only the Samsung 710T, but I can offer some general info.

Backlight leakage can vary per unit.

Ghosting problems... sometimes this can be drastically affected by how bright you have your monitor set at. I find with darker settings, the blur is so much less annoying. Here is an article on the VP930b: http://www.behardware.com/html/news/?date=05-09-2005#7780

Both of these LCDs use S-PVA with Overdrive acceleration.

The 970P probably uses an Overdriven version of this: http://www.samsung.com/Products/TFTLCD/...ors_n_Industrial/LTM190E4/LTM190E4.htm

VP930b probably uses an Overdriven version of this: http://www.auo.com/auoDEV/products.php?...itor&func=info&product_id=5&items_id=1

Some on the vp191b..the VP930b's older and slower cousin.

I *believe* the VP930b is faster than the 970P by a hair. That's my educated guess.

Not sure about MagicTune...it transfers data over the specific cable going to that monitor though, so it *shouldn't*.

If you want a consumer LCD with virtually as little or less blurring than a high-end CRT, here's your answer (the TN-based BenQ FP91V+):

That's right, I did say less afterglow than a CRT (in the text tests), and almost as fast in the graphics tests.

Many thanks for the helpful information. Right now I'm leaning towards the VP930b, if only because of its more versatile monitor stand. Thanks again.
