Ive been starting to run somewhat longer distances. Each weekend I add a mile to my run, and right now Im up to 9. Every week the number of blisters on my toes seem to multiply. Anything I can do to get rid/prevent them?

I had the shoes fitted by a running store. And they helped alleviate my shin splints...I dont really want to ditch them...

Shoes ? That also seems to be a big increase. Try going to adding an addtional mile every other week.

probably the socks. What kind do you wear? Cotton is not so good as it absorbs sweat and becomes soggy and causes chafing a blisters. Buy some Coolmax socks, or any other non-cotton slipperyish socks.

BTW, what shoes are you wearing? And where exactly are the blisters? If they're on the sides, it probably means you need wider shoes (if new socks don't help). On the tips means you need a larger size, and on the top usually means either the shoe is too small and pinching right there, or too large and your feet are slipping too much.

I'm currently training for a half-marathon and I get blisters on the sides of my toes up near the toenail. It's just a consequence of running for me (I used to get the same blisters when I ran in HS). Eventually they'll turn into callouses, but don't pop them - you'll be sorry! It's a ton of pain.

shin splints is basically just a catch-all term for any type of shin pain. usually caused by weak muscles in the lower legs that running tightens. Sometimes can be caused by running form and/or the shoes. Shoes with a heel too high or too low for your preference can cause the muscle to hurt.

Of course, if you listen to the hardcore fundamentalist runners, shoe themselves are the devil and running barefoot is the way to go. (This has som merit, however, as running a few miles barefoot every week is a good way to optimize your form)

Ill try and find some different socks. My blisters were pretty much on all the parts of my toes: inside, outside, and on top. My shoes are Mizunos but I dont know the specific model.

I've ran in Mizunos before, and I thought they felt very close-fitting to me. They were extremely comfortable, but ultimately I didn't like them; I prefer a much looser fit when running. So Mizunos tend to be pretty narrow, and could cause rubbing and blisters, but let's see if good socks will cure that!

Lots of things cause them. But some major ways of preventing is good shoes and running on softer paths. Dirt/grass. Concrete is the absolute worse.

Also, 1 mile a week does seem a bit much. Are you slowing your pace at all or are you going at the same pace? How often do you run a week.

I'd second the thought of slowing it down to every other week.
