Question for religous folks...

Shawn

Lifer
do you believe that god plays an active part in what goes on in the world, or do you believe that he is more of an observer? honest question, no flames please.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

edit: nothing is wrong with the question Shawn. it is worded correctly as far as i can tell 😛

So you're basically asking the same free will versus destiny type thing that has been discussed ad nauseum?

Of course. Just look at the world... God likes to help rappers with their hit singles... but he doesn't like helping the starving children of the world.

it's not the same thing. lets take the recient hurricanes for example, some may believe that they are acts of God. they have nothing to do with free will.

They would have everything to do with free will if God meddled in the lives of humans.

This thread will end nicely, oh crap I lied! guess I'm going to hell, unless I repent! .. then I can lie again and repent that lie .. interesting.

Just goes down the line of why I'll never step foot in a church...
according to the bible God is:

God is Omnipotent (all powerful)
God is Omnibenevolent (all good)

So he is all good, and he is all powerful, yet he allows little girls to be raped, millions to starve to death, thousands to die in hurricanes, etc.

I refuse to believe in, much less worship, a god that has the power to stop these terrible things but does not. I mean he cannot even stop his most dedicated followers (celibate Catholic priests) from molesting children.

Don't even get me going on what happens when you apply Occam's Razor to religious theory!

i dont like how everyone is saying "if he were powerful why would he let the hurricane, wars, starving children, etc ... all exist in the world".

no one ever looks at all of the positive and good things in this world that go on, everyone just looks at all the bad things that go on in the world.

if the population is increasing in the world, then that must mean that more life is being brought into this world than taken out of this world, even w/the hurricanes and tragedies.
