Question for recording on computer...

I know that some people record their music (guitars, vocals, etc...) and mix them on their computers. I had a question about this though... Do you just buy the adapter to plug the 1/4 inch guitar cable into the line-in on the computer's sound card? I would think that it would decrease the quality or something... Anyway, enlighten me 🙂

I've done that with my bro's guitar. Any decrease in quality is negligable considering the other equipment you're using (eg soundcard)
