Could my current Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1 sub/amp drive this setup? Here are the specs on it:

http://www.klipsch.com/product/prod...cid=712&s=specs
FTC Rated per Satellite: 60 w/channel @ = 1% THD, 100Hz - 1KHz (Note: all channels driven)
FTC Rated Subwoofer: 170 w @ = 3% THD, 40 - 100Hz
Maximum Burst Power*: 500 w

Athena AS-B1: http://www.athenaspeakers.com/model-AS-B1-2-specs.htm
Athena AS-F2: http://www.athenaspeakers.com/model-AS-F2-2-specs.htm
Athena AS-C1: http://www.athenaspeakers.com/model-AS-C1-2-specs.htm

Now forgive my lack of techno know-how, but does the above = sufficient power for this setup? I would be replacing the 5 Klipsch speakers w/the above 5. If not, would it be enough power if I had knocked out the AS-F2's and just used 4x AS-B1 instead?

It would work, but I think you might be better off selling your Klipsch as a unit and buying a real receiver/amp + sub.

I actually already have a sub, but I was unsure about what kind of amp. I LOVE the t-amp, but it seems like it there'd be no real way to get it rigged to do 5.1. Any suggestions? I definatly do not need multiple sources, video inputs, really any other inputs/outputs other than needed from my computer and to my speakers. I don't want to spend a whole lot of money seeing that I'm already rather broke .

You don't really need that much power for a typical listening environment. These speakers are quite efficient as well, so you probably won't use more than a few watts most of the time. In fact, the AS-F2s would be better since they're more efficient and can reach a volume of 93dB at 1 m, using 1W of power while the bookshelfs would only do 90dB.

If you got two more t-amps you could do it.

One t-amp for FR, FL
One t-amp for SR, SL
One t-amp given just one half of the Center/sub signal (use a stereo to dual mono adapter or the like) and the other half goes to sub input unamplified.

EDIT: oh, and a refurb Onkyo 502 would get the job done too (and allow you to manage your crossovers etc. also)

The reason I'm asking about the price on the speakers is that AV123 is having a nice deal on some ELTs right now.

ELTs are $149/pair

RSC100 center for $199

Well I already have from my old home theatre setup:

2x AS-B1
1x AS-C1
1x AS-P300

All I am lacking is the front. I was planning on sticking with the Athena line and getting the AS-F2.2's so that my sound is consistent throughtout the system.

Gotcha.

What are you powering them with now?

Well at this exact moment...I've got the AS-B1's and the AS-C1 hooked up to the Klipsch sub/amp right now and carefully testing the waters.... So far, it sound alot better than I'd thought. However, I would still like to find another solution. The reciever that was driving them is currently powering my home rig.

Let me also ask what you guys actually think of the Athena speakers? Personally, I've found them to just about be the best value around, but I'd love some other input.

(oh, and btw, O...M...G... GIVE ME YOU HOME THEATRE!! THAT'S AMAZING.../drool)

"All one needs is a good 5W amplifier" - Paul Klipsch said this while demonstrating a Klipschorn system with 108 dB/1W/1M.

Of course such a system comes to life with a 33 dBW amplifier! :)

lol

About $3000 and you can have it. I even got good deals on everything heh.

There are plenty of people here who have more impressive stuff too. If I go over to AVSforum I'm pretty much an entry level set over there :Q.

I've read good stuff about Athena but haven't heard them myself.

EDIT: oh, and head over to AVSforum and look around if you haven't already.

Anandtech is to computer as AVS is to Hometheater

Well the thing I love about using the Klipsch amp/sub is that my desk is not bogged down with a full-sized reciever. I've just got a small satellite box that controls volume levels (which is all I really need). Is there anything out there like this? I've scowered the web w/no luck.

I just don't want to hassle with 3 seperate units each w/3 seperate volume controls.

As an update, I'm now looking at the Panasonic XR-55 reciever....dunno though....

 I've heard very good things about the Panasonic XR line (mainly XR-50? and XR-70). I haven't been looking for a while though, so I'm not sure what the 55 has that the 50 doesn't.

Think the main things are 7.1 support, Dolby PLx for upsampling of audio to 7.1 channels, binding posts for all the speaker connectors and built-in bi-amping capabilties.

I think the XR-55 would be a wise choice.

Cool. I think I remember reading that poor connections on the back was one of the major complaints about the XR line.
