Is there supposed to be a file named iexplorer.exe in your windows/system directory? I have one but I think it might be a virus because it was accessing the internet by itself. It also keeps loading itself at startup no matter how many times I remove it from win.ini and the registry.

BTW, I'm not talking about iexplore.exe(IE5) in case you thought I misspelled it.

Looks like very suspicious to me. My Iexplore.exe is inside Internet Explorer in the Program Files. Do a property check on the file and see what it says. Search your harddisk if you can find other files that begins with iexplore*.*

Do you have an AntiVirus program? Download one and check your system.

I would have to agree with IsOs. I have never seen a file called iexplorer.exe packages with IE or Windows. I did double check on some 98 and W2K computers here and turned up no files by that name. Can you disable the running of the file through msconfig?

I would install a virus scanner or update my data files if I already had one.

I finally got rid of it(I hope) and Windows seems to be working just fine so I guess it was a virus. Doing a little more digging I discovered it was written in VB6 and was exactly 64k long(65536 bytes) which makes it even more suspicious. I have Mcafee Virus Scan but it didn't report it so I guess it must be too new. Can anybody recommend any anti-virus places I can report this to?
