Do you want to be able to bnech press 250lbs because
a) It sounds impressive to say "I can bench 250"
b) Arms that can bench 250lbs look awesome
c) You actually have something you need to lift that weighs 250 lbs.
d) something else
Substitute "250lbs" for whatever the appropriate weight is, and "benchpress" for whatever the appropriate exercise is.
I only ask because I've never been able to workout in gyms, only via various sports (cycling, surfing, etc). I find it impossible to stay motivated by anything in a gym, which consists primarily of counting repetitions. I'm a lot more motivated by more tangible results, like making it to the top of the mountain on my bike. If the goal is judt a number, I won't keep doing the excercise for more than a couple of days. I just wanted to see what motivates other people.
