Question for people in and around NYC

Starting salary for NYPD patrol officers is $32,700. Say with overtime and night differential pay, it's $40,000. Where in the hell are you supposed to live in or around NYC for $40,000????

Outer boroughs are very doable on a $40,000 salary.

I know many teachers who make $45,000 - 50,000 and live in Manhattan though.

Why do you say that?

Although the salary and benefits for cops in Westchester Co. (just north of the city) are MUCH better.

It's not long before those guys are making twice that. I have spoken to a number of beat cops who have had years where they made over $100k (involves a LOT of overtime).

Lots of people live in NYC for $30K. They just don't live well...

For some reason, I have this image of a veteran cop (played by Bill Murray) talking to the new guy (played by Woody Harrelson) who has a mouth full of donut.

Are you interested in a supplemental income?

sublemendal?

It means extra...

(It's a Kingpin reference if you didn't get it...)
