Question for peltier experts

I was thinking of using a peltier to cool my Tbird 1.4@1.6 at 1.85 volts and perhaps get 1650 put it 🙂

I used the cool program Radiate to find out how much wattage I would have to deal with. Which at 1.6Ghz is about 92 watts. Right now Im watercooling and plan to get a better radiator then what I have now so cooling the hot side of pelt shouldnt be a problem.

What I would like to know is can I use a 122watt pelt? Im not looking for zero degree temps. I just want something that will cool my cpu to about 30C. If a 122watt pelt will do this, what would be the best wat to power it with taking up the least amount of space?
 
If you are using the right voltage (most likely need a separate power supply) to achieve the 122Watt rating on the peltier (and you have a good mounting for your cold plate) then a 122 watt peltier "might" get you down to 30C.

Realistically though, a 156Watt is the minimum peltier for a T-bird and at idle (assuming you don't distributed compute for anandtech...🙂) or during startup you will still be able to make condensation, so you will need to "pot" and insulate your socket and surrounding area.

A small explanation as why a 122Watt might have problems is that exactly at the rating you will achieve a 0 delta on the temp change. (i.e. if your under ideal conditions and you are dumping around 122 watts then the peltier that is rated at 122 watts will simply act a passthrough for heat and not as a cooler, but you will be heating up your watercooling system by double the wattage so the overall effect is higher temps. So the reason you need a bigger peltier is so you can overcome the additional heat in your cooling system and still achieve some positive delta in hot side to cold side.) Some people have suggested doubling the required power for your peltier selection in order to reach the max delta of the peltier. I am sure if I dug enough and used my brain I could work out the formula that the manufacturer's use, but I am feeling a little lazy today. One of Anandtech's newer members (who is obviously not new to computers and overclocking, might be able to give you the formula if you PM him.) He is MrThompson. He runs a peltier setup with a "bong cooler" and can really probably give you some real world advice.
