Question for Overclocking Expert....

I have just received the following items from NewEgg and need a little help.

Abit AI7 865PE Motherboard
Pentium 4 2.4C GHz Processor SL6Z3 Stock Intel Heatsink
Corsair XMS PC-3200 Twinx 512MB

I have the system running Windows 2000 and Mandrake Linux 9.2 at stock speed.
What speed should I try to achieve with this system. I was thinking about 250 MHz bus
speed with a 4/5 divider. I need some suggestions. Also what is a good program to stress the
system to check stability.

Thanks
😀

Does windows 2000 support HT????

I would run:

prime95 (2 instances of it if you do have HT support)

memtest86

superpi 32mb

encoding (anything that can run 4-6 hours)

seti@home (2 instaces with HT)

Hmm, A friend was running 2k, and got both cpu's of an ht cpu to show in device manger, as well as in task manager, so I guess its questionable as to whether or not it supports HT in 2k

no

I thought all that was needed was support for multiple processors, which Windows 2000 has, since a HT enabled systems shows up as a dual processor system as far as Windows is concerned. Am I mistaken?

Intel says no official support for HT in 2kpro
here and IIRC 2000pro sees it as 2 physical CPUs and the performance suffers, but don't quote me on that.
