Well, it would be REALLY hard to pick the "greatest guitar player ever".

Eric Clapton is a master of what he does and a damn fine guitarist, he's not over-rated except by those who aren't qualified to rate him

Paco de Lucia, Leo Kottke, Django Reinhardt, and Robert Johnson are, IMO, ALL better, but I'm just as likely to listen to Clapton as any of those....
