Question for MiniDisk users

Planning on buying a Sony 505 soon. How many minutes can i store on an MD? I'm looking for sound quality similar to 192kbps MP3.

160 minutes on mpld2 quality, I think.

I'd say get an mp3 player, honestly - the format's different, and it's a pain - had a Sony 707 but sold it.

Get a solid state mp3 player 😛

You can get about 2 1/2 hours on a disc, but you have to use Sony crappy format.

I would like a new mp3 CD player, but I don't have the $$$, my Minidisc player was a present.

A Panasonic wma/mp3 player would be my ideal buy, to give a choice of format, plus some CD players nowadays have about 25 hours battery life or more, and a CD player would allow you to play any normal CD's you have.
The bulk isn't quite so good though 🙁

about 160 mins on a 80 mins minidisc on lp2 mode, the acutal quality is 132kbps in atrac3, but from my experience, this setting sounds just as good as a 192kbps mp3.

About 160mins... but it's great. Media is dirt cheap. I have two dozen here, with only a dozen used. If i want to change music, instead of reloading songs, i can just swap discs. And battery lasts a LONG time. I'll say at LEAST 8 hours between charging with the internal battery. And it doesn't skip either. I've even dropped it when it slipped from my pocket while doing decline crunches, and it didn't skip.

yeah, battery life on MD players are pretty awesome. the ability to record is really cool. i used it to record lectures and played them back to study. great quality.

there's one for sale in my sig if anyone's interested 😀

I just got a 505 too. Awesome player and for decent quality is 160min. Don't use Sony's crap software but instead use Nero or RealOne. Also, you can hack the Sony 505 to have the same features as the N1, since they use the same chip or something.
