ive seen some with 2 of the side intakes, and some with 4 of the side intakes and can't seem to find out why some have 4 and some have 2, can someone explain?
While I'm not positive on this, (they were brand-new during my time in the Corps.), I suspect the difference is between the CH-53 Sea Stallion, and the heavier duty CH-53E Super Stallion.
It could be something basic like they started with 2, then moved to 4 intakes. Could just be due to a structural deficiency ... thus the change. Or maybe more powerful engines being used later which requirea bigger intake, which 4 intakes might have???
A bunch of speulation, but maybe one of these paths will give you the answer.
