Thanks for the reply to my post on setting up new computer. The harddrive I have is 60g, should I partition this into 2 parts ie..20g + 40g. Or is it better to keep the drive as a single 60g drive. Is there a performace hit when this is done? If not, is it correct to keep windows on the 20g and programs & applications, games on the 40g. I have not had a partitioned drive done before so this is why I am asking.

Tks Dave

with ntfs on a desktop it's typically better/easier to have one large partition. with windows9x/me it's easier to have one large partition, but leaves more room for fat32 errors to occur. there are no performance differences that I'm aware of by having seperated partions, but with fat32 there will be slightly(very) less available space, but not enough that you would even notice.

I think I will go with one large partition using ntfs. I am in the process of putting a new computer together ( if I can get any free time for myself) Started picking up a few pieces throughout the year, so now I am down to the video card. Was going to try and get the 9800XT, but availability is a problem. Looks like I will have to settle for the 9800 pro 128mg, if I want to get this up and running in the couple of weeks. If I run into any problems can I email you if I have some questions.

Tks Dave

save your money, get the 9700 pro, it will play everything current at insane frame rates, with good video quality, the difference between the 9800 xt and the 9700 pro don't justify the price difference. you can pm questions anytime, I get enough e-mail already from work, and it's liable to get lost in my junk folder.

Thanks for the reply, I will post here from time to time. Looks like I will have to settle for the 9800 pro, the 9700 is not available where I live or from the site I order from. What is your take on the going with the 9800 pro AIW. The difference in price is only around $20.00 compared to the 9800 pro( both are 128 mg). I was thinking that the video features may be useful to my daughter down the road or if I decide to upgrade the card in a year or so. The video features may be useful to her when I upgrade her machine. ( Which I plan to do early next year). Have you heard of any performace issues, that is the 9800 Pro AIW being not as fast as the 9800 Pro.

newegg.com should have plenty Saphire 9700pro's in stock.(same one I use in my system) you won't find a better on-line vendor. the AIW just has more features, uses the same chips (depending on the manufacturer) and should perform equally. 9800 pro's are about $20 more that the 9700 pro's so that may be worth the difference, the XT's are still overpriced.
