The Distributed Computing forum is still about the most familial forum I've ever come across on the web. Well...except for a sour apple here and there with a big ego but, for the most part, it's filled with great TeAm members.

As for the OT area, well, as AT has grown in popularity, it's picked up younger and younger members. I can definitely tell a swing in that direction.

P.S. Congrats to the newest Lifer, Astaroth33.😀

Hmm, I thought I saw a few non-lifers that had 10000+

But yes, congrats!

Was wondering if anyone would notice... (also, as of tomorrow, I'll have been here exactly two years)

:beer::beer:😀:beer::beer:

<--- buys a round for everyone!

Happy Anniversary, Astaroth33!

Can't blame newbs for changing things. AT has evolved. Good or bad, it has, and that's reality.

I still like it better than any others so far. I used to lurk in the geocities days, and visited occasionally over the years, not really getting into it until later.

The only things I do miss are the flame wars and less restrictions on posts.

Alright, some one needs to tell me how you tell what your user number is! Or at least give me a hint. Its not even that I care what mine is, I just want to know how to find the damn thing. The fact that I cannot figure it out is driving me nuts.

Seriously, I will count to 10, then someone must give me a hint!

Mouse over your icon, and look at the URL. It will tell your your ID.

The forum seems maybe a bit more childish, but not a whole lot, especially coming from a forum where there really weren't any flames or trolls. I read the forum on and off before I registered, but it seems like a lot of the really cool members have left, for whatever reason.

I don't really worry about it though. 🙂

Bless you.

The more things change the more the stay the same.

I think the average age has dropped to ~13. 😀

Although OT used to be a LOT more interesting to read, you never knew if someone was real or not. Drama, lots of drama.

Do you mean you never knew if people were joking around or being serious?

I wish I could have witnessed the epic flamewars many of you are describing. 🙂

I'm assuming you're talking about the forums and not the main site.

There was a time about a year ago when I was starting to get a little irritated with this place. The non-stop flame wars in threads that had any political angle (and there were a LOT of those dominating OT at the time) were getting old. It was starting to make this a hostile, bitter place as those feelings would branch over into other unrelated threads. But once the admins made the News/Politics forum and really started cracking down on any attempts to bring that stuff in here it made OT a much more enjoyable place to browse again. Like a lot of people I come in here to just relax and goof off. An argument about cars or girls usually isn't anywhere near as intense and polarizing as a political argument is.

As for the forums overall, I still like this place. I've been so content with my hardware the last couple years that my original reason for coming here 4 years ago is no longer as important. I rarely need tech support and advice right now, but this is still a great place to get it whenever I upgrade or mess with something. It's also a good place to find Hot Deals, but that place can have a bad impact on your wallet for those with no control (ironic given its intention.)

I tried subscribing for a little while but found it to be a waste for my needs. I don't do that much PMing and the speed increase on the public servers awhile back made the difference between the two imperceptible IMO. I think all the whining about ads is a little ridiculous, but that's just my opinion.
