when you first purchased your iPod, was there a protective seal over your scrolling wheel that you took off?

I got the 20Gb version and it had no seal.

It was also from the states.

No, but there was a clear plastic sheet covering the iPod with a message printed on the front - "Do not steal music" 😛

ok...the reason i ask is b/c i tried scrolling with the wheel and it wont move, so i though there was a seal on it

any suggestions?

nope, hold button is off

i mean, i havent even turned the thing on, it's getting its first FULL charge right now straight from the box

how are you supposed to scroll through music?

well, if you dont do anything for awhile, it goes blank and goes into "sleep" mode. to turn it back on, press any of the buttons, which will go to whatever screen it was at before it went into sleep mode. press the menu button until you get to the main menu, and it will a have a list of things like:

playlists
artists
albums
songs
settings
about

use the scroll wheel to move up/down each, and press the middle button to select, and the menu button to go up.

lol the IPOD has the most intuitive user interface...and you couldn't figure it out..haha

for your information, the floor model i was playing with at compusa did have a moving scroll wheel. If you read the details of the previous posts, you would have read the following:

"i mean, i havent even turned the thing on, it's getting its first FULL charge right now straight from the box"

try reading the previous posts b4 opening your big mouth next time

if it doesnt work, you can take off the scroll wheel, and look around at it.

take a piece of wide masking tape (or that tape they use to close boxes works better), put it on the scroll whee, get a good seal, and then yank it off. you can snoop around, and then snap it back on. might need to be cleaned out.
