I collect gold coins, and yesterday the US Mint opened sales for the 2011 American buffalo. I do not have one yet and really want one. BUT the US Mint is charging $1760.00 per coin.

https://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/w...ctId=16098&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=14239

I buy my coins from local coin shops and yes they do charge a premium above spot, for example the shop i go to has a 1986 Proof US gold Eagle for $1580.00 its in its box and has a COA.

so why is the mint charging $200+ above spot per coin?

They adjust their prices monthly based on the current spot price of gold. That's pretty much their standard markup for proof gold one ounce coins.

That one-ounce proof gold for $1580 at your local shop is a screaming bargain! PM me the name of the shop and let me know if they take phone orders! (if it's not the proof version, then it's fairly priced)

My sons a Numismatist, but not on that level. Damn. Also, the kangaroo on your coin looks like it's about to get the surprise butt sex from the other one.
