I recently purchased a MSI HD 6970 2gb (yet to arrive) for a awesome price, which will be accommodating a 2500k, Cosair Vengeance 8gb, MSI P67-G45, and a HX520 psu. While I probably won't regret my decision I was wondering if there would be a noticeable difference in FPS vs lets say a GTX570. I know the 2gb on the 6970 wont make a difference for my resolution but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt for future-proof sake. Will this graphics card handle just about anything I throw at it? particularly Battlefield 3? I heard that BF3 favors Radeon cards. Will my HX520 psu be enough?

yes your gpu will tear through games at 1680x1050. sure the gtx570 might match or even beat it sometimes but its probably real close. and nothing wrong with having 2gb at 1680 since your only other option with AMD would be just 1gb. and yes your psu is more than fine unless you do some excessive overclocking and run furmark and intel burn test at the same time.

thanks for the quick reply. I also read that one advantage the 6970 has over the gtx570 is that it stays relatively cooler and quieter!

that really depends on the specific models being used. reference 6970 cards look to be both quieter and cooler running than gtx570 reference cards.
