WHY when you have double doors do you insist on locking one of them?
Not only is it incredibly annoying but its a serious freakin safety hazard. If some shit were to go down, fire, shooting, whatever, no one is gonna stop to reach down and flip that stupid little locking paddle, especially when assloads of panicked people are rushing through the only open door. Even worse someone may crash into it thinking the door is actually a usable door, and scatter glass shards all over themselves and everyone else.

In my experience it's just an employee forgot to unlock them all.

I dont doubt you but if thats the case then there is some epidemic amnesia going on with employees in every single store/doctors office/school I've ever been in, all across America. I've seen it in Minnesota, Oregon, California, Florida, Iceland, both Dakotas, Alabama, Virginia and even Iceland.

I know exactly what you mean.

And more times that I care to admit, I'm appropraching a double-door, see an attractive lady who will arrive at the doors just a split second behind me, so I reach out to open the door for her (typically the left one,) only to find it's locked, causing me to stumble a bit, then I try to recover and grab the other door, but since it swings the other way, I have to move in front of her, sometimes forcing her to take a step back, or awkwardly open the door while standing too close to it, etc.

It's all just a huge cluster-fuck, you lazy SOBs! Unlock both damn doors!

I always look for the door that has the deadbolt on it. If they're going have only one door open, that's the one to go for.

Yes, annoying though.

Less doors open less heat gets out. Lower P&L numbers.

Thats fine but why do they still do it in regions of the country where AC and heat arent used very much, or those times of year when they arent needed?
Habit?

I would guess it's because there's a problem with the door.. Out of adjustment, or hinge issues might take a day or two to get fixed

Actually, it's more like an employee is too lazy to unlock them.
Yeah, they HAVE to insert & turn a key to get in, but OH NOES, don't make me bend over AND reach up to unlock the other door!
Have you paid any attention to the employees lately, especially the low paid and/ or younger people that tend to be working in these establishments?
