Question for folks in Virginia

I live in GA, and we have vanity plates, but they are few and far between. I visited DC last month and it seemed like every other car on the road in Virginia had a vanity tag. Are they real cheap to get or free?

I think $25 for a custom message. They're not as common in the more southern parts of Virginia. But you're right, they're pretty popular throughout the state.

yeah, its because they are cheap. I think some of them are $15 on top of the regular plates (which are only $29). let me look at the DMV website, then I will update

EDIT: it's only $10 per year on top of plate fees. So, yeah, it's because they are cheap

I just checked the GA DMV site and a custom tag costs $25 initially

Registration renewal fees are:

$20.00 annual tag fee,
$25.00 annual special tag fee,
Ad valorem tax
$1.00 if the plate is to be mailed to you

AH HA HA HA HA HA!!

I noticed that within 5 minutes of leaving the airport in Norfolk on my first trip there. Vanity plates are EVERYWHERE there.
